Paragraph: A Science Fair

(126 words)

A science fair is an exhibition or display of scientific instruments. Last week our school authority arranged a science fair, and it was held at our school premises. I was simply charmed by what I saw at the fair. Some schools displayed handmade models of ships, motorcars, trains, radios, computers, etc. But I liked most the microscope, the cheapest paddy thresher, and the remote-controlled light. Shahjibazar Ideal School has shown this project. Their project was praiseworthy. Different schools joined the fair and their participation made the fair more outstanding and enjoyable. Our school got third prize and it was a computer program. I spent about three hours visiting the fair and experienced many new things. I left the fair with mixed feelings of joy and wonder.

Fair is a place of fun and frolic. Fairs are held to remove the dullness of life. But science fairs take place with a different purpose. Fun they do provide but their main objective is to arouse interest in the student in the study of science to develop faith in modern technology and adopt a scientific outlook on life. I attended such a fair in Shahjibazar Ideal School, Habiganj. All the rooms in which the fair was held were decorated with charts. The items selected newness and fascinated the visitors. What interested me the most was the workings of the human body displayed and operated with electricity. The working of the heart, digestive system, and other organs of the body was really to the eyes. I returned home quite enriched in knowledge.

A science fair is generally a competition where contestants present their science project results in the form of a report, display board, and models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in secondary schools and higher secondary schools to compete in science and technology activities. Although writing assignments that take a long time to complete and require multiple drafts are common in schools, large projects in the sciences other than science fairs are rare. Science fairs also provide a mechanism for students with intense interest in the sciences to be paired with mentors from nearby schools, colleges, and universities so that they can get access to instruction and equipment that the local schools could not provide. In Bangladesh, science fairs first became popular in the early 1970s. By arranging a science fair, any country can create its new possible scientists. So, the government should take steps regularly to create new scientists.
